This is where it started.

Me on the right. My best friend on the left. Hair a little sweaty, voices probably a little loud and off-key—but hearts totally in it.

We were church kids, growing up in the rows and rhythms of Sunday morning. This photo was taken during a children's program at church—one of many where we stood shoulder to shoulder, singing hymns and praise songs, not fully understanding all the words but somehow knowing they mattered.

I don’t remember what song we were singing that day. It could’ve been This Little Light of Mine or a VBS anthem with hand motions and a key change. But I remember the feeling: community, joy, and a kind of holy routine that wrapped us in security.

These are the memories that shaped my faith. The songs that settled into my heart before I had the vocabulary to explain why. The harmonies that echoed through fellowship halls and sanctuaries and still echo through my life today.

Why “Sunday Songs and Stories”?

This new space is a return. I love the contemporary worship music of today, but I also have a longing to return to the hymns I grew up on.

I’m walking through my church’s hymnal—one song at a time—sharing the stories behind the hymns, the composers who wrote them, and the memories they stir up from growing up in the pews. I’ll be playing each hymn on the piano and posting reflections on YouTube, Instagram, and here on the blog.

But this isn’t just about music. It’s about remembering the soundtrack of our faith.

It’s about revisiting those formative moments—singing next to a parent, hearing the congregation lift a chorus, sitting cross-legged on a carpet square learning "Jesus Loves Me."

Maybe you grew up like me, with hymnals in your hand and songs in your ears. Maybe you're new to the world of old church songs, but curious about their timeless beauty. Either way—this space is for you.

Want to Stay in the Loop?

I’ll be sharing one hymn each month, along with stories, reflections, and some free resources you can download and enjoy.

If you’d like those to land gently in your inbox, you can subscribe to the newsletter here.

It’s going to be slow and sacred. Honest and a little nostalgic. And full of songs that shaped us.

Thanks for being here at the start.
